GANDHINAGAR : Gujarat took another significant step towards strengthening teacher education on Tuesday as Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art ₹127 crore campus of the Indian Institute of Teacher Education (IITE) in Gandhinagar. Designed to produce globally competent educators, the new campus is expected to become a major centre for academic excellence, research and innovation in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The foundation stone was laid in the presence of Education Minister Pradyuman Vaja, Minister of State Trikam Chhanga and Minister of State Rivaba Jadeja.
The upcoming campus will include modern academic and faculty buildings, advanced science laboratories, seminar halls, smart classrooms, a digital library, museum, sports infrastructure and a fully equipped hostel with accommodation for more than 600 students.
Addressing the gathering, Education Minister Pradyuman Vaja said the project represents much more than the construction of a new campus.
“This is the beginning of a new era in preparing outstanding teachers who will shape India’s future. Our aim is to nurture not only educators but nation-builders capable of contributing globally,” he said.
Established in 2010 under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, IITE was created to develop world-class teachers through specialised education and research. The university is now being transformed into a multidisciplinary institution with seven new University Schools to promote innovation, research and skill-based learning under NEP 2020.
Minister of State Trikam Chhanga said the university would play a transformative role in modernising India’s education system.
“With the effective implementation of NEP 2020, IITE is poised to emerge as an institution of national importance that will redefine teacher education and educational research,” he said.
During the event, the dignitaries also digitally launched the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) curriculum. The Chief Minister also felicitated the teachers of B.N. High School, Vadnagar, who guided Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his school education, highlighting the lasting impact of quality teachers in nation-building.
