Bhutan King and PM Visit Statue of Unity in Gujarat

Vadodara : Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the king of Bhutan and Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay visited the Statue of Unity (SoU) at Ekta Nagar on Monday. 

The Bhutan King and Bhutanese PM were received by Gujarat Minister Jagdish Vishwakarma at the Vadodara airport on Monday morning. The dignitaries arrived at the Vadodara airport and then proceeded to the SoU, where they will also visit the Sardar Sarovar Dam site.

 The King and Prime Minister of Bhutan arrived in Vadodara today on a three-day tour of Gujarat.

When the King and Prime Minister of Bhutan arrived at the airport, various cultural programs showcasing the deep culture of Gujarat were showcased.

Both dignitaries were welcomed with traditional Gujarati garba and drumming on arrival at Vadodara airport. After a short stay at Vadodara airport, both dignitaries left for Ektanagar.

On this occasion Minister of State for Protocol  Jagdishbhai Vishwakarma, Mayor Pinkiben Soni, Ambassador of India to Bhutan Sudhakar Dalela, Joint Secretary of Ministry of External Affairs  Anurag Srivastava, Chief Protocol Officer of Ministry of External Affairs  Neeraj Kumar Jha, District Collector  Bijal Shah, City Police Commissioner. Narasimha Komar, Head of Chancery Sanjay Thinle and other high officials welcomed the dignitaries.

Gujarat Government  said that elaborate arrangements have been made for the visit.

The 182-metre-tall statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, overlooking the basin of the Narmada River and the sprawling Sardar Sarovar Dam, is located at Ektanagar in the state’s Narmada district. The Bhutan king and the PM will be given the background of the construction of the statue, the role of Sardar Patel, and his contribution to the unity of the country after Independence. After that, they will visit the Tent City, and then proceed to Sardar Sarovar Dam at 3.50pm.
