Bharuch : As the scorching summer sun beats down, Bharuch and Vadodara railway stations emerge as beacons of relief for weary travelers, offering a welcome respite in the form of quality meals at pocket-friendly prices. Under the aegis of Indian Railways’ expansive initiative, passengers traversing through Western Railway (WR) stations are treated to hygienic and affordable refreshments conveniently located near General Second Class (GS) coaches on platforms.

Indian Railways, in collaboration with the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), has embarked on a commendable endeavor to cater to the needs of passengers, especially those journeying in unreserved compartments, during the sweltering summer months. Recognizing the challenges faced by travelers in accessing budget-friendly meal options, particularly in unreserved coaches, WR has introduced the provision of economical meals at select stations including Mumbai Central, Bandra Terminus, Bharuch, Vadodara, and Chittaurgarh.

Sumit Thakur, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, elaborates on the initiative, emphasizing its dual approach. Priced at a nominal Rs. 20/-, the economy meals offer a satisfying and affordable option for passengers on the move, while snack meals priced at Rs. 50/- cater to those seeking lighter refreshments.

Aligning with the locations of General Second Class coaches on platforms, the counters for economical meals ensure easy access for passengers, eliminating the hassle of searching for vendors or venturing outside the station premises. This initiative, successfully piloted at 51 stations last year, has now expanded significantly, with over 100 stations and nearly 150 counters operational across the Indian Railways network.

The program’s expansion reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to enhancing passenger comfort and convenience, with plans underway to include more stations in the near future. This initiative not only addresses the immediate needs of passengers during their journeys but also contributes to the overall travel experience, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable trip for all.
