Mumbai : To celebrate World Environment Day ’23, Axis Bank, one of the major private sector banks in India, spearheaded a beach cleanup initiative called Clean-A-thon on Mumbai’s Juhu Beach. The Bank is coordinating this effort with others throughout the country to clean up 25 or more beaches and bodies of water. To highlight the critical nature of reducing plastic pollution and supporting proper waste management practises, over 200 volunteers participated in the campaign. Among those present was Dr. Chetan V. Kantharia, MBBS, MS (Gen Surgery).

A total of 2,450 kilogrammes of plastic garbage was removed from beaches and water bodies thanks to the efforts of the Bank’s branch workers, local communities, environmental activists/influencers, local authorities, and volunteers during the cleaning campaign. Volunteers also taught locals about the dangers of plastic pollution and how to cut down on their own usage of disposable items.

Axis Bank’s Group Executive of Branches, Retail Liabilities, and Products, Mr. Ravi Narayanan, commented on the initiative, saying, “We firmly believe that the responsibility to protect our planet lies with each one of us, and through this initiative, we aim to instill a sense of environmental consciousness and responsibility amongst fellow citizens.” We owe it to the generations who come after us to leave the world in better shape than we found it, and this programme will complement other worldwide initiatives now under way to achieve that goal.

From June 4-11, 2023, the Bank will spearhead this initiative in twenty different locations throughout India, including Mumbai, Bangalore, Kochi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Varanasi, Patna, and so on. The United Nations has designated “#BeatPlasticPollution” as the subject for World Environment Day in 2023, and this project is in line with that goal.

As part of its larger commitment to CSR and sustainable development, Axis Bank will be celebrating World Environment Day 2023. The Bank recognises the need to emphasise the importance of waste management in protecting the environment and increase public understanding of the serious problems created by plastic pollution.
