Pune (Maharashtra) [India]: To fulfill her dream of teaching children and contributing her bit to the nation-building exercise, this woman from Pune decided to pursue a B.Ed degree at the age of 44 years. Meet Minu Kalita, a dreamer who completed her graduation in B.Ed from the MIT Peace University in Pune.

The coronavirus pandemic came as a blessing in disguise for Kalita, who was preparing for her elder son’s admission to the college in Pune. As her husband is working in Africa, it was not possible for the family to travel during the pandemic and Kalita had to confine herself in the four walls of her house.

During this time, she decided to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a skilled educator. She got admission to pursing B.Ed at the MIT World Peace University in Pune at the age of 44 years.

Kalita did not just complete her B.Ed but was also awarded a scholarship for being a rank holder and an exemplary performer. After being awarded the B.Ed degree, Kalita is now teaching the students of 9th grade at the PICT Model School in Pune.

Looking back on her journey, Kalita believes that taking the first step toward achieving one’s dreams is always important, irrespective of the odds stacked against them. She says, “I have always believed that if I can do it, anyone can. I have therefore decided to pursue my Master’s along with my ongoing job. If you want to fulfill your dreams, taking the first step against all odds will give you the confidence to carry on. Looking back on my journey of getting a degree at the age of 44, I have realized that there is no ‘right age’ for accomplishing your goals. At the end of the day, it is always better to try and fail instead of playing safe and regretting it for the rest of your life!”
