Surat : ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India)’s flagship plant in Hazira, Surat has played a pivotal role in the construction of an engineering marvel Anji Khad bridge, which saw Railways complete the first loaded train trial run. The company has supplied 100% flat steel supplies (~7000 metric tonnes) to India’s first and only cable-stayed rail bridge that represents more than mere steel structure.

Linking Katra and Reasi sections of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) in Jammu & Kashmir, the Anji Khad bridge – crafted by an Indian multinational engineering and construction company – is a result of innovation and adaptability.

Standing tall in the heart of India’s northern region, where the magnificent Chenab River meanders through the rugged terrain, Anji Khad bridge has not only redefined the landscape of the nation’s infrastructure but also underscored the country’s trajectory towards ‘Viksit Bharat’, envisioned by the Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Honourable Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw recently shared a video of the successful trial on social media platform X, highlighting the engineering marvel: https://bit.ly/4fRuhei

Brimming with pride, Ranjan Dhar, Director and Vice President, Sales & Marketing, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), said: “We feel truly honoured to contribute to nation-building from our flagship plant in Hazira, Gujarat, which has supplied world-class steel to this engineering marvel. Our team has meticulously fabricated the steel, fulfilling almost entire requirement of the project from our Hazira plant’s fabrication shop, adhering to the precise specifications. Our involvement in this transformative infrastructure project from the beginning speaks volumes about our expertise.”

Dhar added, “This also demonstrates our ability to drive strategic synergy through partnership with esteemed public and private stakeholders to achieve the ambitious goals of ‘Viksit Bharat’. By leveraging each other’s strengths and sharing expertise, we are building not just infrastructure, but a more self-reliant and prosperous India for brighter futures.”

AM/NS India has strengthened its position as a reliable partner for India’s infrastructure development by successfully meeting specific steel requirements and navigating logistical challenges in this complex project. Guided by the brand promise:‘Smarter Steels, Brighter Futures’, the company’s dedication to innovation and customer-centricity positions it well for future contributions to the nation’s growth in a purposeful, inclusive, and sustainable manner.

The company has also significantly contributed to Chenab bridge – the world’s highest rail bridge – by meeting more than 70% flat steel requirements; these two engineering marvels reflect the nation’s unwavering commitment to transform its infrastructure with indigenous prowess.

AM/NS India expertise shines

The Anji Khad and Chenab projects highlight the company’s expertise in meeting specific steel needs and navigating logistical challenges.

  • Large-scale material requirements: The projects demanded massive quantities of specialised steel requirements. AM/NS India ensured smooth supply through:
  • Optimized production planning: Coordinating production across its facilities to meet specific requirements and timelines.
  • Agile supply chain management: Collaborating closely with customers to manage potential disruptions and maintain material flow.
  • Remote locations: Both bridges are situated in challenging geographic terrains, posing logistical hurdles. AM/NS India overcame these by:
  • Establishing efficient supply networks: Utilising various transportation modes to ensure timely delivery despite complex routes and infrastructure limitations.
  • Implementing robust inventory management: Strategically positioning stockyards and optimising inventory levels to cater to fluctuating demands at the construction sites.
