AHMEDABAD: Panic gripped Ahmedabad schools after bomb threats were sent by email to 10 educational institutions on Wednesday, triggering an immediate security response and forcing schools to send students home early. Parents rushed to campuses after being asked to collect their children as police, bomb squads, fire teams and 108 ambulance personnel moved in to check the premises.
The threats warned of explosions at 11:11 am and contained the message, “Ahmedabad Gujarat Bolega Khalistan Zindabad.” The emails also referred to the Narendra Modi Stadium and Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, raising further security concerns.
Among the schools named in the threats were Zydus School in Vejalpur, Bodakdev School for Children in Satellite, SGVP School in Chharodi, Sant Kabir School, Asia School on Drive-in Road and H.B.K. School in Memnagar.
As soon as the threats were received, security agencies were alerted. Teams from the police, bomb squad and fire department reached the affected schools. Ambulance teams were also deployed as a precaution.
The Ahmedabad District Education Officer, Rohit Chaudhary, said schools had been asked to immediately inform their respective police stations.
“All schools have been instructed to inform their local police stations. Students should be evacuated and handed over to their parents without creating panic,” Chaudhary said.
Parents rush to schools
The threats triggered anxiety among parents, many of whom rushed to school gates after receiving messages asking them to collect their children.
A parent at Zydus School said the threat had caused fear among families.
“It is frightening to receive a bomb threat. What will happen? The school asked me to pick up my daughter, so I came here to take her home,” the parent said.
The parent added that such messages naturally create fear among families, especially when they threaten children and school campuses.
Zydus School also informed parents about the situation and advised them to collect their children.
Security checks launched
The schools dismissed students early as a precaution while security teams carried out checks. Authorities are treating the emails seriously and conducting necessary verification to determine whether there is any actual threat.
The latest incident also brings back memories of similar threats received in September, when emails targeted the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, Gandhinagar Court and schools in Ahmedabad.
Those threats also contained a reference to “Khalistan Zindabad” and claimed that explosions would take place at specific times. Security checks at the Assembly later found no suspicious object.
