Ahmedabad-Rajkot Highway Collision Claims Two Lives

The mishap occurred between Bavla and Bagodara, where a truck carrying fabric materials from Bagodara to Ahmedabad suffered a tire burst. The out-of-control vehicle collided with another truck traveling in the opposite direction from Bavla to Bagodara. This initial crash led to a chain reaction, involving two more vehicles—an Icer tempo and a cement bulker—culminating in a massive blaze.

Ahmedabad : In the early hours of Thursday, a catastrophic accident unfolded on the Ahmedabad-Rajkot highway near Bhamasra village, resulting in two fatalities and two severe injuries. The incident involved four heavy vehicles and bore a striking resemblance to the recent Ajmer highway tragedy, which claimed 11 lives and left 33 injured after a tanker explosion.

How the mishap occurred?

The mishap occurred between Bavla and Bagodara, where a truck carrying fabric materials from Bagodara to Ahmedabad suffered a tire burst. The out-of-control vehicle collided with another truck traveling in the opposite direction from Bavla to Bagodara. This initial crash led to a chain reaction, involving two more vehicles—an Icer tempo and a cement bulker—culminating in a massive blaze.

Fire engulfed the trucks, killing two individuals on the spot. One of the deceased was identified as Kamal Singh Harisingh, the truck driver from Rajasthan, while the other was a passenger. Two injured victims, including the driver of the second Icer vehicle, Jigneshbhai Dilipbhai Vaja from Junagadh, were rushed to Sola Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad.

Police and Fire teams on spot

Local police from Bavla, Bagodara, and Koth stations, along with fire brigade teams from Dholka and Sanand, swiftly arrived at the scene to control the inferno and manage traffic disruptions. The blaze caused a significant traffic jam, which was eventually resolved after hours of coordinated efforts.

What officials say

According to officials, the first truck—loaded with cloth rolls—crossed the divider at high speed and hit an oncoming vehicle. This reckless maneuver triggered the chain collision. Authorities confirmed that the trucks involved were transporting goods such as sacks of wheat, rice, and fabric.

The truck carrying fabric belonged to a company in Chotila. The regular driver, Pradeepbhai, was on leave, and Kamal Singh Harisingh had taken over in his absence. Tragically, Harisingh perished in the accident, alongside an unidentified passenger in his cabin.

Eerie Parallels between Ajmer and Ahmedabad case

This accident draws eerie parallels to the Ajmer highway tragedy in Jaipur earlier this week. In that incident, a truck collided with an LPG tanker, causing a devastating explosion. Eleven people were burned alive, and 33 others sustained severe burns. Both accidents underscore the perils of negligence and high-speed driving on national highways.

The recent spate of highway accidents has reignited concerns about road safety and vehicle maintenance standards. Experts emphasize the urgent need for stricter regulations and enforcement to prevent such incidents. Fire safety protocols for vehicles carrying hazardous or flammable materials are also being scrutinized.
