Ahmedabad | Gujarat — Just a day before its much-awaited release on October 31, the Gujarati film Misri (મિસરી) has landed in controversy after a promotional stunt video went viral showing the star cast performing dangerous bike stunts on the busy streets of Ahmedabad. The footage, widely shared on social media, sparked outrage among citizens and forced the police to initiate swift legal action.

The film’s promotional video features well-known actors Manasi Parekh and Tiku Talsania, along with other members of the team, riding bikes and performing stunts on the Science City Road, one of the city’s busiest stretches. Eyewitnesses and online viewers criticized the team for flouting traffic rules and setting a bad example in the name of promotion.

“This kind of reckless behaviour by celebrities sends the wrong message to young fans,” said Rakesh Patel, a resident of Ahmedabad who witnessed the stunt. “The roads are for commuters, not for movie publicity shows.”

Police register case, identify bikers involved

Following public outcry, the Ahmedabad Police launched an investigation into the viral video. A detailed probe revealed the exact location of the stunt and the registration numbers of the bikes involved. Based on this, the police registered a case against unidentified individuals under the Motor Vehicles Act, which was later updated as the riders were identified.

According to PI N.A. Desai, who is handling the case, “The star cast of Misri (મિસરી) performed stunts on moving bikes as part of the film’s promotion. We have identified the riders and drivers involved. A case has been registered under the Motor Vehicles Act, and all individuals have been summoned to the police station for questioning. Legal action will be taken against everyone involved.”

Public backlash and industry reaction

The incident has drawn mixed reactions within the Gujarati film fraternity. While some believe the stunt was a misguided attempt to attract attention ahead of release, others condemned the team for disregarding public safety.

A senior filmmaker from the Gujarati industry, requesting anonymity, said, “Promotions are important, but not at the cost of law and safety. This kind of act damages the reputation of the entire industry.”

On social media, netizens flooded comment sections with criticism, demanding stricter action. “If common citizens are fined for minor violations, why should film stars be spared?” wrote one user on X (formerly Twitter).

Release overshadowed by controversy

The controversy comes at a crucial time for Misri, which was scheduled to hit theatres across Gujarat on October 31. What was meant to be a creative promotion has now overshadowed the film’s release, with police action and public criticism dominating the headlines.
