Ahmedabad | Gujarat —- In a chilling breakthrough that reads like a crime thriller, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch has cracked a 34-year-old murder mystery buried deep beneath a house in Ahmedabad. The sensational 1992 killing of a young woman has resurfaced after investigators exhumed human remains from a well inside a house in Qutubnagar, Vatwa, sending shockwaves across the city.

Police confirmed that the remains are believed to be those of Shabnam, allegedly murdered by her boyfriend Shamshuddin in a love-affair dispute and secretly buried to erase all traces of the crime. In a dramatic twist, the main accused has now been found alive and detained for questioning.

Crime Branch officials revealed that the breakthrough came after new information emerged during a fresh probe into old unsolved cases. Acting on the lead, investigators used heavy machinery to dig up the well inside the house and recover skeletal remains. The bones will now undergo DNA testing with samples from the victim’s brother to establish identity conclusively.

According to investigators, disturbing revelations surfaced during questioning of family members linked to the accused. Police said that after the murder, one family member claimed to repeatedly “see visions” of the deceased girl, pushing the household towards superstition and Tantric rituals in fear and guilt.

“During questioning, a relative confessed about the murder while in an intoxicated state. This confession triggered a deeper investigation, eventually leading us to the burial site,” a Crime Branch officer said.

The probe has also uncovered a mysterious ritual that kept the crime alive in whispers for decades. Police found that a young man would visit the site weekly to light a lamp, leading investigators to suspect that members of the accused’s family may have been aware of the hidden crime.

Despite the shocking nature of the case, the victim’s family had never filed an official complaint. Investigators believe the murder remained buried due to fear, silence and the passage of time. Some individuals linked to the crime have since died, complicating the investigation further.

Officials confirmed that the surviving accused are now being interrogated and additional evidence is being collected. “This case shows that no crime truly disappears. Even after decades, the truth finds a way to surface,” an officer said.
