AAP workers keeping 24×7 vigil against EVM tampering in Surat
Electronic voting machines (EVMs) were sealed and moved to the Gandhi Engineering College’s strongrooms in Majura Gate
Surat (Gujarat): After the first phase of voting was completed in Surat, the electronic voting machines (EVMs) were sealed and moved to the Gandhi Engineering College’s strongrooms in Majura Gate, where Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members are standing guard to keep 24×7 vigil to thwart any attempt by unscrupulous elements to tamper with the EVMs.
The AAP workers from the Varachha assembly constituency, the battle ground of former Patidar reservation agitator, Alpesh Kathiriya, are keeping a sharp eye on the CCTVs with the fear that the EVMs might be tampered with. About a dozen AAP workers keep an eye on the monitors installed outside the strong room since the evening of December 1.
The Gandhi Engineering College, one of the counting venues for the Gujarat election, has been clamped with security by the Surat police and the Central teams to avoid any untoward incident ahead of the vote counting day. The AAP workers have constructed a makeshift tent and brought their bedsheets and other important things to keep 24×7 vigil on the cameras.
Yogesh Jadhwani, Surat AAP spokesperson said, “We do not want to take any chances. EVMs have tampered in the past election and we have many such examples. Our workers are keeping round-the-clock vigil outside the strong room at both the counting venues to thwart any untoward incident”
“The workers are doing day and night shifits. They will perform their duties till the last minute of December 8 when the counting of votes will begin” said Jadhwani
