AAP Leader Jigisha Patel Injured in Stone-Pelting Attack in Gondal

Rajkot | Gujarat — In a shocking incident that has sparked political outrage in Gujarat, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Gujarat pradesh joint secretary Jigisha Patel was seriously injured after her car was attacked by a group of unidentified persons in Gondal town of Rajkot district.

The violent episode unfolded near Sargam Park on Ghoghavdar Road when Patel was on her way to attend a local public grievance meeting. According to eyewitnesses, four to five women and two men allegedly blocked her vehicle before one of the women picked up a large stone and smashed the car window, injuring Patel. A live video of the attack has since surfaced, intensifying public concern.

“The attack was sudden and clearly pre-planned. We were surrounded, and before we could react, the stone shattered the window,” a party worker accompanying Patel said. The driver, sensing danger, sped away from the scene to prevent further harm.

Patel sustained serious head injuries and is suspected to have suffered a fracture in her hand. She was first rushed to Gondal Civil Hospital in a bleeding condition and later shifted to a private hospital in Rajkot for advanced treatment. Doctors are closely monitoring her condition.

Patel, who has been actively touring villages in Gondal city and taluka since October 31 to listen to public grievances, had reportedly stopped to hear presentations of local issues when the attack took place. Party leaders have described the incident as an attempt to intimidate a grassroots political worker.

“This is not just an attack on Jigisha Patel but an attack on democratic values,” an AAP functionary said, demanding immediate arrests. “Leaders who raise people’s issues are being targeted.”

Following the incident, a heavy police deployment was made at the spot and the hospital. Authorities have registered a case and initiated a detailed investigation. Officials are examining whether the assault stemmed from political rivalry or personal enmity.

Police sources confirmed that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the attackers using video footage and eyewitness accounts.

The incident has triggered sharp reactions within the AAP ranks, with party workers staging protests and demanding strict action.
