New Delhi : The Diana Award, the greatest honour a young person may get for social action or humanitarian endeavours, has been bestowed to Taarush Grover, a grade 12 student from Gurugram, Haryana, for his social tech non-profit organisation, Volanity.
Volanity is an automated technology platform that has increased volunteer conversion rates from 14% to 78% by connecting 160+ student and university volunteers to teach non-academic education and 21st century skills to 2000+ kids in Non-government schools throughout India. He has joined forces with Shoolini University, the best private school in India. This year he has already earned the Pramerica Emerging Visionaries award and the outstanding grant from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Solved via LwL.
For Taarush, “the goal of education reform must be to instill in students the habits of mind that will allow them to continue learning on their own long after they leave the classroom.”
As a young kid, Taarush spent his time at the Gurudrawa, where he was exposed to the concept of “seva” (selfless service) and taught the value of giving back to the community. During the swine flu epidemic, he intended to rally the community behind the plight of impoverished pupils and improve their access to school.
He had an entrepreneurial mentality and set out to construct improvement. In order to determine what problems exist in the NGO volunteer experience, he spoke with 37 NGO advocates and directors, 104 NGO school students, and 49 NGO volunteer students. He used cutting-edge tools and communication avenues to address critical difficulties related to scheduling, planning, and follow-through. His revolutionary two-way feedback and streamlined booking platform cut down on typical customer wait times from three days to only fifty-four.
Then, over the course of the subsequent 9 months, he collaborated with well-known specialists in India and the United States to create proven Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum. It was the top private institution in India, Shoolini institution, whose founders and student welfare organisation saw the value of Taarush’s work and accepted it. “I have seen a rare dedication and resilience in Taarush which is uncommon in kids of his age group,” said Poonam Nanda, Dean of Student Welfare at Shoolini University. He is committed to helping kids from disadvantaged backgrounds. If we can produce more people like this young man, the future of our country is secure.
