SURAT: With massive stages, elaborate decorations and thousands of Garba enthusiasts expected to gather, Surat’s Navratri organisers have secured insurance coverage worth an estimated ₹225 crore to ₹250 crore to protect participants, visitors and event organisers against potential mishaps.
Six major organisers have obtained policies ranging from ₹10 crore to ₹100 crore, reflecting growing attention to safety and financial liabilities at large-scale Garba events. One organiser alone has secured coverage exceeding ₹100 crore.
Jignesh Madhvani, founder of Torin Wealth Management, said organisers were taking insurance more seriously this year.
“Organisers have taken out various types of insurance to cover potential risks. So far, six major organisers have secured insurance through us,” Madhvani said.
The events include Global Garba Village, Suvarna and YPD, along with Garba venues in Adajan and Limbayat.
Coverage for Accidents and Liability
According to Madhvani, the policies cover multiple risks, including fire, accidents, stampedes, loss of life and damage to property, subject to individual policy terms.
Organisers have also sought event cancellation cover, with protection against financial losses of up to ₹20 lakh per day in specified circumstances. Third-party liability insurance can help cover eligible compensation claims and legal expenses arising from incidents such as food contamination or negligence.
The move comes amid rising event costs, extensive infrastructure and growing safety responsibilities.
Rain Risk Excluded
However, rain remains a major concern. Insurance companies have excluded rainfall-related risks from the policies amid weather uncertainties and forecasts.
Organisers are instead relying on physical arrangements, including waterproof and fire-resistant domes and tents, to improve safety and minimise disruption.
Despite the exclusion, organisers remain confident that the celebrations will continue with enthusiasm, drawing on their experience of managing rainy conditions during previous Navratri seasons.
With major venues investing heavily in infrastructure and crowd management, the multi-crore insurance cover highlights the financial stakes involved in Surat’s expanding Garba economy. However, actual protection will depend on the specific terms, exclusions and limits of each policy.
