BHAVNAGAR: Six workers heading to the Alang ship-breaking yard were killed after a speeding Bolero crashed into the rear of a stationary trailer near Trapaj village on the Bhavnagar-Talaja-Somnath Highway on Tuesday, October 6. CCTV footage of the fatal collision has also surfaced.
The impact was so severe that the Bolero was completely mangled, killing six occupants on the spot. One other passenger, identified as Jayeshbhai, suffered critical injuries and was initially rushed to Sir T. Hospital in Bhavnagar before being shifted to a private hospital for further treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Vijaybhai, Sadhubhai, Jigneshbhai, Bhargavbhai, Hirenbhai and Yogeshbhai.
According to preliminary information, the victims were employees associated with Plot No. 24/B and Plot No. 137 at the Alang Ship-breaking Yard and were travelling to work when tragedy struck.
Trailer Driver Had Stopped for Tea
The accident occurred near Trapaj village in Talaja taluka when the driver of trailer RJ-31-GA-9871 reportedly stopped for refreshments. Meanwhile, the Bolero, bearing registration number GJ04-EP-2599, crashed into the trailer from behind.
CCTV visuals show the force of the collision, with the Bolero slamming into the trailer and one person apparently being thrown onto the road. Locals and others at the scene were seen attempting to rescue the trapped occupants.
“The Bolero rammed into the rear of the trailer,” the preliminary account of the incident stated.
Emergency personnel and locals worked to retrieve the bodies from the wreckage. The injured Jayeshbhai was taken to hospital for treatment.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers faced by commuters travelling on the busy Bhavnagar-Talaja-Somnath Highway, particularly during early-morning journeys to industrial areas.
