Ahmedabad Student Beaten to Death, Found Naked in Apartment Compound

AHMEDABAD: A 21-year-old university student was allegedly brutally beaten and abandoned in a critically injured condition at an apartment compound in Ahmedabad’s Isanpur area, before succumbing to his injuries at the hospital. The shocking incident has triggered a murder investigation, with police searching for unidentified assailants.

The victim, Jigar Shaileshbhai Solanki, a native of Bhavnagar and a first-semester B.Voc (Finance) student at Silver Oak University, was found severely injured at Tirthbhumi Apartments behind Sardar Patel School on the night of October 2.

Jigar had been staying with his maternal uncle, lawyer Harshitbhai Jaswantbhai Chauhan, at Jayant Park Society for around two-and-a-half months. He left home around 9.15 pm on his Honda Xtreme motorcycle, telling his family that he was going to meet a friend near Maninagar’s Jawahar Chowk.

Later, his family received information about an altercation involving him. A caller identified as Prakashbhai Vyas informed the family that Jigar had been assaulted and was lying at Tirthbhumi Apartments. He was reportedly found wearing only shorts and socks.

When his maternal uncle reached the spot, he found Jigar unable to stand and suffering from multiple injuries to his shoulder, arms, cheek, hip, chest and armpit.

“I have been beaten up and am in severe pain; please take me away from here,” Jigar reportedly told his uncle. When asked who had attacked him, he did not respond.

An ambulance was called and Jigar was rushed to LG Hospital, where he died during treatment around 12.30 am.

Following a complaint from his maternal uncle, Isanpur police registered a murder case against unidentified persons. Police teams, along with a dog squad, examined the apartment compound and surrounding area while investigators began scrutinising CCTV footage.

Isanpur Police Inspector B.S. Jadeja said, “The student had left home saying he was going to meet friends on his bike. A mobile phone was also recovered from him. Efforts are now underway to trace the accused based on CCTV footage from the surrounding area.”

Police are investigating Jigar’s movements between the time he left home and when he was found injured, while efforts are underway to identify the attackers and establish the motive behind the killing.
