Surat Thieves Trapped Inside Factory After Break-In

SURAT: What began as an alleged theft attempt at a closed factory in Surat’s Khatodra GIDC ended with the suspected thieves themselves crying for help after they became trapped inside the premises.

The unusual incident occurred on Sunday evening when 18-year-old Roshan Binbahadur Sahani, a resident of Ashapuri Society in Pandesara, allegedly entered a factory on Bamroli Road with a minor accomplice, taking advantage of the Sunday holiday.

The duo reportedly entered the closed premises intending to steal valuables. However, their plan took an unexpected turn when they lost track of the entry point while moving through the dark factory.

After wandering around for hours, the two allegedly became increasingly frightened. With no apparent way out, they eventually reached the third floor of the building.

Spotting people outside through a window, they began shouting, “Save us! Save us!”

Their cries alerted local residents and passersby, who gathered outside the factory and informed the police control room.

A PCR team reached the spot and found the factory locked while the two youths were trapped on the third floor. The police then alerted the fire control room.

A rescue team from Majura Fire Station arrived with equipment and used a ladder to reach the trapped youths through the window. After an effort, both were brought down safely.

The alleged thieves, reportedly drenched in sweat after being trapped inside the premises, were relieved to finally reach the ground.

Their relief, however, was short-lived.

Police personnel were waiting for them outside and immediately took both into custody before handing them over to Khatodra police.

Police have registered a case against Sahani and his minor accomplice and are questioning them to determine whether they may be linked to any other theft cases.

The incident has drawn comparisons with the Gujarati film Lalo, turning what was allegedly planned as a theft into an unusual rescue operation where the alleged burglars ended up needing help from the people they may have intended to steal from.
