Adani Unveils Rs.4,000 Crore Bengal Healthcare Plan

KOLKATA : Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani on Thursday announced a major healthcare and infrastructure push in West Bengal, unveiling the Adani Arogya Mandir, a 2,000-bed not-for-profit medical institution backed by an investment of more than ₹4,000 crore.

Speaking at the launch event in Kolkata, Adani said the healthcare project would include a medical college, advanced research facilities and specialised care infrastructure. Of the 2,000 beds, 1,000 will cater to economically weaker sections eligible under state and central health insurance schemes.

“The Adani Arogya Mandir will be a world-class, not-for-profit medical institution that will have 2,000 beds,” Adani said. He added that the project is expected to generate more than 10,000 jobs across Bengal’s healthcare ecosystem.

Adani described the initiative as the beginning of a larger commitment to the state, saying the group expects to invest over ₹1 lakh crore in West Bengal by 2035.

The proposed investment will span ports, logistics, power generation, transmission and distribution, roads, bridges, ropeways, green cement and hyperscale data centres, according to Adani.

“Bengal is not simply an investment destination. It is a place where I want to build, to serve and most importantly, to belong,” he said.

Adani also highlighted Bengal’s strategic location and potential as a maritime and logistics link between India’s industrial heartland, the Northeast and Southeast Asian trade routes.

Beyond healthcare and industry, the group plans to support heritage and cultural initiatives, including the restoration of the historic Writers’ Building, revitalisation of Kumartuli Ghat and efforts to showcase Kolkata’s Durga Puja art globally.

Earlier in the day, Adani visited Kalighat and said he sought blessings for the strength and determination to contribute to Bengal’s next phase of development.

“Bengal will awake, Bengal will progress; Bengal’s strength is India’s momentum,” Adani said, concluding his address with “Joy Bangla” and “Jai Hind.”
