Gujarat to Map MSMEs on Gati Shakti Portal

GANDHINAGAR : Gujarat is set to put its manufacturing MSME network on the map—literally—with a statewide GIS-based geo-tagging exercise aimed at creating a centralised database of industrial units and reshaping how infrastructure and government support are planned.

The initiative is being implemented by the MSME Commissionerate under the Centre’s Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) scheme. Gujarat Info Petro Limited (GIPL) has been entrusted with carrying out the mapping of manufacturing MSMEs registered on the Udyog Portal.

Under the exercise, authorised GIPL representatives will visit MSME units to geo-tag their locations and collect and verify relevant information. The state has urged manufacturing MSMEs and industry associations to cooperate with the teams and provide the required details.

“This GIS-based mapping will help create an integrated and systematic database of MSME units in the state,” the MSME Commissionerate said.

The database is expected to provide policymakers with a clearer geographical picture of Gujarat’s manufacturing base, helping identify infrastructure requirements and improve implementation of government schemes.

The mapping will also be integrated with the PM Gati Shakti Portal, strengthening data-driven planning and decision-making. Gujarat’s approved RAMP plan specifically includes mapping MSME clusters with PM Gati Shakti to align industrial clusters with infrastructure requirements and identify connectivity and development gaps.

“With location-based data and verified details, need-based support and facilities can be planned more effectively,” the department said.

The project is expected to help Gujarat move towards more targeted infrastructure planning, better resource allocation and stronger policy interventions for its manufacturing MSME ecosystem.
