SURAT : In an age when screens increasingly compete with family conversations, Navchetan Adani Vidyalaya near Hazira brought children and grandparents together in a warm celebration of love, values and intergenerational bonding.
The primary section for Grades 6 to 8 organised a special ‘Sneha Sammelan’ (Gathering of Affection) for paternal and maternal grandparents, with around 65 elders participating enthusiastically.
The school family welcomed the grandparents with greeting cards prepared by students and flower bouquets. The children sought their blessings and paid tribute to their elders, while also pledging to spend more quality time with them.
The emotional interaction highlighted the importance of family, respect and gratitude. “Our grandparents are a treasure of values and life experiences. Spending time with them helps us understand and preserve these values,” the school said.
The event also featured a music-based ‘Passing the Ball’ game, in which the grandparents participated with enthusiasm and childlike excitement. Their memories and experiences added a personal touch to the gathering.
The elders later created a devotional atmosphere by singing bhajans and aarti, turning the celebration into an occasion of both joy and reflection.
The programme aimed to strengthen dialogue between generations and encourage children to learn directly from their grandparents’ experiences.
The gathering concluded with an enduring message: grandparents are not merely members of a family but living repositories of culture, wisdom and values, whose presence can help shape the next generation.
