SURAT :  A ₹76.44 lakh e-stamp transaction involving the family of Surat diamond tycoon and BJP Rajya Sabha MP Govind Dholakia has landed two authorised stamp vendors in the Crime Branch net, after the money was allegedly diverted for personal expenses instead of being used for the promised land-registration documents.

The Surat DCB Crime Branch has registered a case against Ramkrishna Kiritkumar Mevavala and his wife, Saloni Mevavala, residents of Rander, following a complaint filed on behalf of Dholakia’s son, Shreyans Dholakia.

According to the complaint, Dholakia required e-stamps worth ₹76,44,900 for documentation related to land purchased in Palsana. The family had reportedly been dealing with the couple since 2020 through lawyer Maharshi Laywala, leading to a relationship of trust.

Police said the amount was transferred through RTGS in December 2025 to the account provided by the accused. However, the couple allegedly failed to provide the e-stamps despite repeated demands.

According to the complaint, when Dholakia sought either the stamps or a refund, the vendors allegedly continued delaying the matter with assurances and excuses.

The investigation further indicated that the accused allegedly used the money to issue stamps to other customers and spent part of the amount on personal expenses.

After persistent demands for repayment, the couple allegedly issued a cheque for the entire ₹76.44 lakh. The cheque subsequently bounced due to insufficient funds, escalating the dispute into a criminal complaint.

A Crime Branch official said the matter was presented before the Surat Police Commissioner, following which permission was granted to register the case.

The DCB has booked the accused under relevant provisions relating to cheating and criminal breach of trust and has intensified its investigation to trace the money and secure the accused.

Police are also examining the transactions and documents linked to the alleged misuse of the funds.
