One of the biggest surprises of Bigg Boss 20 has been the entry of legendary Indian boxer MC Mary Kom.
The six-time world champion and Olympic medallist has entered Salman Khan’s reality show, bringing a sporting career unlike that of any other contestant in the house.
Mary Kom’s Sporting Career
Mary Kom is one of India’s most decorated boxers.
She became the first Indian woman boxer to win an Asian Games gold medal, achieving the feat in 2014. She also won gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics.
Her achievements have also been recognised with major Indian honours, including the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan, along with the Arjuna Award and Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna.
Mary Kom’s Bigg Boss Challenge
Mary Kom has said that she intends to bring the discipline she developed through boxing into the reality-show environment.
However, the Bigg Boss house presents a very different challenge from a boxing ring.
During the premiere itself, Mary Kom and singer Qazi Touqeer were involved in a disagreement over the selection of a bed, providing an early glimpse of the conflicts that can develop inside the house.
A New Chapter
Mary Kom’s participation is her reality-television debut and gives viewers an opportunity to see the champion outside the sporting arena.
