SURAT : Tiktok star Kirti Patel, known for her frequent controversies, has once again landed in legal trouble after Surat Police arrested her in connection with allegations of defamation, threats and extortion. Police took action after a complaint was registered against her and suspended woman constable Nayana Baraiya.
Kirti Patel was arrested from Surendranagar and brought to Surat on Thursday. During her arrival, police had to intervene after she allegedly created a commotion outside the police station.
Surat DCP Alok Kumar said the case was registered under serious sections, including obscene language, criminal intimidation, defamation, extortion and criminal conspiracy provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Information Technology Act.
“Kirti Patel and Nayana Baraiya are named accused in this case. Investigation has revealed allegations related to threats, online defamation and financial transactions,” DCP Alok Kumar said.
According to police, the complainant, businessman Raju Bhuva Bhammar, had alleged that an attempt was made to settle a rape complaint by demanding money. Police claimed that a total amount of around ₹3.12 crore was allegedly collected from the complainant over one-and-a-half years.
The police said additional extortion charges were added after investigation and notices were issued to both accused before Kirti Patel’s arrest.
During her interaction with media personnel, Kirti Patel questioned the allegations and said, “If additional sections have been applied against me, the police should provide evidence.”
Police officials said she will be produced before the court, where they will seek further custody for investigation. The case has once again brought attention to controversies surrounding social media personalities and alleged misuse of online platforms.
