GANDHINAGAR :In a major boost to cyber crime policing, the Gujarat Government has launched the Cyber Financial Fraud e-Zero FIR service, enabling victims of online financial fraud to register complaints from home without visiting a police station. The initiative is expected to significantly reduce response time, improve fund recovery, and strengthen public confidence in the state’s digital policing system.

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi formally launched the service in Gandhinagar on Monday. Under the new system, an e-Zero FIR will be generated automatically as soon as a victim reports a cyber financial fraud through the 1930 National Cyber Crime Helpline. The FIR will then be forwarded electronically to the concerned police station, allowing investigators to begin legal action immediately.

“The State Government is continuously using technology to provide faster and more transparent police services. The e-Zero FIR system will enable victims of cyber fraud to register complaints from home while improving the chances of recovering their hard-earned money through quicker action,” Sanghavi said.

The initiative has been implemented in collaboration with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

Director General of Police Gyanendra Singh Malik has directed all police units across Gujarat to treat cyber fraud complaints with urgency and sensitivity to ensure speedy justice for victims.

IGP of the Cyber Centre of Excellence Bipin Ahire said the system would automatically generate a Zero FIR based on complaints received through the 1930 helpline. Police officers will then contact the complainant, collect the required information, formally register the FIR as per legal procedures, and immediately begin the investigation.

The effectiveness of the new system has already been demonstrated. An Ahmedabad resident who fell victim to a digital arrest scam became the first person in Gujarat to register an e-Zero FIR. Acting swiftly, the Cyber Crime Department managed to save more than ₹15.76 lakh, preventing the victim from suffering a major financial loss.

“The automated FIR process ensures immediate police intervention, which is critical in cyber financial fraud cases where every minute counts,” Ahire said.

The launch event was attended by Principal Secretary (Home) Sanjeev Kumar, DGP Gyanendra Singh Malik, senior Cyber Crime officials, and representatives of I4C. Police Commissioners, Range Heads, Superintendents of Police, and Cyber Crime officers from across Gujarat joined the programme virtually through GSWAN.
