RAJKOT : An IndiGo flight travelling from Dubai to Mumbai made a dramatic emergency landing at Rajkot International Airport on Monday after smoke was detected in its cargo compartment, triggering a full-scale emergency response. The aircraft, carrying 194 passengers and crew members, landed safely, averting what could have been a major aviation disaster.

The incident involved IndiGo flight IGO1452, which had departed from Dubai and was en route to Mumbai when the crew noticed smoke emerging from the cargo compartment. Following standard safety procedures, the pilot immediately informed Air Traffic Control and requested an emergency diversion to the nearest suitable airport.

Rajkot International Airport authorities declared a full emergency at 2:45 pm, mobilising all rescue and emergency services before the aircraft touched down.

Airport Director Digant Borah confirmed that the aircraft landed safely at 3:27 pm.“A full emergency was declared after smoke was reported in the cargo compartment of IndiGo flight IGO1452 operating between Dubai and Mumbai. The aircraft landed safely at Rajkot International Airport at 3:27 pm. All 194 passengers and crew members are safe,” Borah said.

As the aircraft approached Rajkot, emergency teams rushed into action. Two fire tenders and two ambulances from the Rajkot Municipal Corporation were deployed at the airport. Firefighters, medical teams, CISF personnel and airport police remained on standby to handle any emergency.

After the aircraft landed, all passengers were safely evacuated. No injuries or casualties were reported.

Officials said bomb disposal and dog squads were also deployed at the airport as part of the standard emergency response protocol. Authorities began a detailed inspection of the aircraft to determine the exact source of the smoke.

Passengers described tense moments inside the aircraft as the crew informed them of the precautionary diversion. However, the cabin crew maintained calm and followed emergency procedures throughout the flight, ensuring an orderly landing.

The incident once again highlighted the importance of strict aviation safety protocols and the preparedness of airport emergency teams to respond to potential in-flight emergencies.

The cause of the smoke in the cargo compartment has not yet been officially confirmed. Technical experts are expected to examine the aircraft, while aviation authorities may conduct a detailed investigation into the incident.
