Israeli Radar Systems to Be Manufactured in Tamil Nadu From 2027

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has announced plans to begin manufacturing advanced radar systems in Tamil Nadu starting in 2027 as part of a new India-Israel defence partnership.

The facility is being developed in Shoolagiri Industrial Area in Krishnagiri district through a joint venture between IAI’s ELTA Systems and DCX Systems.

New Radar Facility Under Construction

The companies recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new radar manufacturing plant under their joint venture, ELTX Systems Pvt. Ltd.

Construction of the facility is expected to be completed by April 2027, after which manufacturing, integration, and testing operations are scheduled to begin.

According to earlier Tamil Nadu government estimates, the project involves an investment of around ₹850 crore and is expected to create approximately 165 jobs.

Facility to Support Indian and Global Defence Programmes

IAI said the upcoming plant will manufacture and test advanced radar systems for both Indian defence requirements and international markets.

The company added that the facility will strengthen India’s local defence manufacturing ecosystem and support the government’s “Make in India” initiative.

The joint venture is also expected to help expand India’s indigenous capabilities in:

• radar technology
• surveillance systems
• airborne defence systems
• threat detection platforms

Technology Transfer and Localisation Focus

According to IAI, ELTX Systems will focus on transferring advanced defence technologies and expertise to India.

The project aims to localise critical defence manufacturing capabilities while deepening industrial cooperation between India and Israel.

Officials said the facility will support various Indian Armed Forces programmes and contribute to building a stronger local supply chain through partnerships with:

• startups
• suppliers
• academic institutions
• defence technology firms

IAI Highlights Long-Term India Partnership

IAI noted that it has maintained defence cooperation with India for more than four decades.

Its systems — including missile defence technologies, drones, radars, satellites, and intelligence platforms — are already used across India’s military and government agencies.

Boaz Levy said the collaboration reflects the shared strategic and technological partnership between both countries.

IAI Expanding Presence in India

In recent years, IAI has significantly expanded its India operations by:

• launching its Indian subsidiary Aerospace Services
• partnering with IIT Delhi
• supporting Indian deep-tech startups
• opening a radar maintenance facility in Hyderabad

The Hyderabad facility focuses on Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) support for advanced radar systems used by Indian defence forces.

IAI has not officially disclosed which specific radar systems will be manufactured at the Tamil Nadu facility.
