Surat | Gujarat — In an inspiring display of honesty, alertness and professionalism, personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) stationed at Surat Airport safely returned a handbag containing cash worth lakhs and valuable jewellery to a female passenger, earning widespread appreciation for their swift action and dedication to duty.

The incident took place on May 21, 2026, at around 7:20 pm, when CISF personnel noticed an unattended handbag lying in the city-side parking area of Surat Airport. Treating the matter as a security concern, the team immediately secured the bag and initiated standard inspection and verification procedures in accordance with airport safety protocols.

During the verification process, officials identified the owner as Kavita Agarwala, who had arrived in Surat from Kolkata on an Indigo Airlines flight numbered 6E-6399. She was reportedly seated in seat number 3C on the flight that departed at 5:30 pm.

Upon inspection, the handbag was found to contain jewellery along with approximately ₹2.5 lakh in cash. CISF officials quickly coordinated efforts to contact the passenger and informed her about the recovery of her belongings.

“Security personnel acted promptly and responsibly while ensuring all protocols were followed. The bag was returned only after proper identification and verification,” an airport official said.

After completing the necessary formalities, the handbag was safely handed back to the passenger.

Overwhelmed with relief and gratitude, Kavita Agarwala praised the CISF team for their honesty and efficiency. “I was extremely worried after realising my handbag was missing. The CISF personnel not only secured my valuables but also ensured they were returned safely. Their honesty and professionalism are truly commendable,” she said.

The passenger also reportedly shared a video message appreciating the CISF staff for their exceptional conduct.
