Health Minister Cracks Down on Negligence in Medicine Distribution

Gandhinagar | Gujarat — In a strong move to safeguard patient welfare, Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya has ordered strict action against a junior pharmacist accused of denying medicines to patients despite sufficient stock being available in the government supply system.

The decision follows complaints of negligence that triggered an official inquiry by the Health Department. The probe reportedly confirmed that adequate medicine stock was available in Gandhinagar, yet patients in Visnagar allegedly did not receive the prescribed medicines.

Calling the issue “serious and unacceptable,” the minister directed immediate administrative action. “Any negligence that affects patients’ access to treatment will not be tolerated. Ensuring timely and quality healthcare remains our top priority,” officials said.

Transfer and Departmental Inquiry Initiated

Following the findings, junior pharmacist Prashant Shrimali, posted in Visnagar, has been transferred to Kutch. The department has also initiated a formal inquiry to determine accountability and possible disciplinary action.

Officials said the action sends a clear message that lapses in public healthcare delivery will face strict consequences. “The Health Department is committed to maintaining accountability at every level to protect patient interests,” a senior official stated.

The incident has drawn attention to the importance of efficient medicine distribution in public healthcare facilities. The government reiterated that strict monitoring systems are being strengthened to prevent similar incidents in the future.
