Ahmedabad | Gujarat — In a powerful story of grit rising above hardship, a Class 10 student from Ahmedabad’s Amraiwadi area has turned personal tragedy into academic triumph. Shweta Yadav, who spent a year studying in a makeshift tent after her family’s home was demolished, has secured an impressive 94% with an A1 grade in the SSC 2025 examinations.

What makes her achievement extraordinary is not just the score, but the circumstances under which it was earned.

In March 2025, following a violent clash between two groups in the Vastral area, several properties linked to accused individuals were demolished by authorities. Among them was the home of Shweta’s family, leaving her, her sister Ekta Yadav, and their parents without a roof over their heads. The family was forced to set up a tent outside the ruins of their home in Amraiwadi.

Despite the hardship, Shweta refused to let her education suffer.

“Our house was gone, but not our hope,” Shweta said. “I studied inside the tent during the day and under streetlights at night. I kept telling myself I cannot give up.”

A local social worker later provided the family with a portable tent, which became their shelter through scorching summers, heavy rains, and harsh winters. Inside this fragile space, Shweta prepared for her exams while also coping with emotional and financial stress.

Her elder sister Ekta, who was preparing for the TAT exam, also faced setbacks. Speaking about the family’s struggle, she said, “If we had not faced so many problems, I would have become a teacher by now. But we never stopped trying. Shweta’s success gives us strength.”

The family also had to battle legal and administrative challenges, approaching the High Court and later receiving orders for reconstruction of their house. However, even after construction, they continue to struggle without electricity, making daily life even more difficult.

Shweta’s journey was not just about studying. To support her family financially, both sisters took up small jobs at a local puja shop. Their mother also worked odd jobs while their father managed limited income opportunities.

Despite everything, Shweta remained focused on her dream of becoming a civil servant. “I was not only studying, I was also fighting for my home and my future,” she said. “Now I want to prepare for UPSC and serve society.”

Her SSC result brought tears of joy to her family. From a life surrounded by rubble and uncertainty, Shweta has emerged as a symbol of determination for many students facing adversity.

Her story is now being widely shared across Ahmedabad, inspiring students and parents alike to believe that circumstances do not define success—willpower does.

As her sister Ekta added, “This is just the beginning. We will rebuild everything, step by step.”
