Surat | Gujarat – In an emotionally charged show of devotion, textile traders in Surat launched a unique protest by writing a letter in their own blood to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding that the cow be declared the “Rashtramata” (Mother of the Nation). The campaign quickly gained attention after thousands joined a massive rally that marched through the city to submit a petition backed by nearly five lakh signatures.

The symbolic act saw ten prominent traders draw blood using syringes and write their appeal on large card paper, urging the Centre to grant the cow the highest national status and eliminate cow slaughter across the country. The movement has sparked widespread debate and is rapidly gaining traction on social media.

Rally with Bullock Carts and Bulldozer Draws Crowd

The campaign gathered momentum as a large rally began at Vanita Vishram Ground in Athwagate and proceeded to the District Collector’s office. The procession featured bullock carts symbolising cow worship and even a bulldozer, presented as a sign of strict action against cow slaughter.

Thousands of cow devotees, saints and traders joined the march, chanting slogans and carrying banners in support of the demand. The presence of saffron-clad religious leaders added to the scale and visibility of the rally.

“We are not making a political demand. This is about national pride and respect for Gau Mata,” said trader Lalit Sharma during the rally.

Demand for Dedicated Cow Breeding Ministry

Beyond symbolic gestures, the traders have put forward a significant administrative proposal: the creation of a dedicated Cow Breeding Ministry at the Centre. According to the organisers, such a ministry would ensure protection, preservation and promotion of indigenous cow breeds.

Organisers claim that around five lakh citizens have already signed the petition, which was submitted to the District Collector for onward transmission to the central government.

“This is the resolve of cow devotees. We believe the cow should be declared the Mother of the Nation and recognised as national heritage,” said one of the organisers.

Movement Goes Viral Nationwide

The “Cow Respect Call Campaign” is now spreading beyond Surat, with organisers hoping the symbolic blood-written letter will carry their message to Delhi and spark a nationwide conversation.

With growing participation and strong religious backing, the campaign signals the emergence of another high-profile socio-cultural movement from Gujarat, aiming to place cow protection at the centre of national.
