On the final day of campaigning ahead of the second and last phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections scheduled for April 29, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that he would return to the state next month to attend the swearing-in ceremony of a Bharatiya Janata Party-led government, expressing confidence that the party would secure victory when results are announced on May 4.

Addressing a rally in Barrackpore, North 24 Parganas, the Prime Minister said this was his final campaign event in the state and that his interactions with people during the election tour had strengthened his belief in a favourable outcome for the BJP.

He stated that he would return to West Bengal for what he described as the oath-taking ceremony, adding that the election campaign had given him a deeper understanding of the state’s political sentiment. Modi also said he felt a strong sense of confidence from public responses across his rallies.

Campaign Rally and Roadshow in Eastern India

Earlier in the day, Modi also conducted a roadshow and addressed supporters in different parts of eastern India, including events in nearby regions. The campaign marks one of the final pushes by the BJP ahead of the concluding phase of voting in the high-stakes state election.

The Prime Minister described his campaign journey in West Bengal as a “pilgrimage,” stating that it had given him renewed energy and commitment toward what he called the development of the eastern region.

Political Remarks and Attacks on Opposition

During his speech, Modi launched sharp criticism against the ruling Trinamool Congress, accusing it of misgovernance and corruption over the past several years. He alleged that industrial decline, unemployment, and rising criminal activity had affected the state’s development.

He claimed that while industries had shut down in several areas, illegal activities had increased, and accused the ruling party of enabling corruption and political intimidation. The Prime Minister also accused the opposition of targeting constitutional institutions and spreading misinformation during the campaign.

Development and Employment Focus

Modi further emphasized that a BJP-led government would prioritise job creation for the youth of West Bengal, stating that migration due to lack of employment opportunities had been a long-standing issue in the state.

He highlighted the party’s vision for regional development across eastern India, referencing neighbouring states under BJP governance and stating that economic growth in the region would be strengthened under a unified development model.

Cultural Reference and Closing Remarks

In his concluding remarks, the Prime Minister invoked the patriotic hymn Vande Mataram, referencing its historical and cultural significance as a symbol of national unity and inspiration.

He reiterated his confidence in the BJP’s electoral prospects and suggested that the outcome of the elections would mark a turning point for West Bengal’s political and economic future.
