Surat | Gujarat —- Amid growing public concern over possible LPG shortages due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, authorities in Surat have stepped up monitoring of gas supplies to ensure uninterrupted availability of domestic cylinders for consumers.

Officials from the district administration and police conducted surprise inspections at LPG storage facilities and commercial establishments, assuring residents that there is no shortage of domestic cooking gas in the city and urging people not to panic or believe rumours circulating on social media.

As part of the inspection drive, District Supply Officer (DSO) Darshan Shah and Deputy Police Commissioner (SOG) Rajdeepsinh Nakum jointly conducted a live verification of LPG stocks at the Indian Oil gas godown located in Sachin GIDC. Alongside this, separate teams also carried out checks at various restaurants across the city to monitor usage and ensure compliance with supply regulations.

Government Monitoring Supply Situation

Officials said the inspections were conducted as a precautionary step in view of the evolving situation in Middle Eastern countries, which has triggered speculation about potential disruptions in fuel supplies.

Speaking to the media, District Supply Officer Darshan Shah reassured citizens that there is sufficient LPG stock available in Surat.“There is adequate supply of LPG cylinders in Surat. We are continuously checking the stock at gas godowns across the city and district to prevent any shortage or artificial scarcity,” Shah said.

He added that the state government is closely coordinating with oil marketing companies to maintain a smooth and uninterrupted gas distribution system.

“Gas distribution companies are supplying cylinders regularly and there is no disruption in the supply chain. Consumers should not panic or rush to book cylinders unnecessarily,” he said.

Shah also appealed to residents to avoid falling prey to rumours and to book LPG cylinders only according to their actual requirements.

Strict Action Against Hoarders

Meanwhile, police authorities have also warned of strict action against individuals or businesses involved in illegal hoarding or black marketing of LPG cylinders.

Deputy Police Commissioner Rajdeepsinh Nakum, who heads the Special Operations Group (SOG), said that the gas supply system is under constant surveillance.

“Our teams, along with supply department officials, are closely monitoring the situation. If anyone is found illegally storing LPG cylinders, creating artificial shortages or charging above the prescribed rates, strict legal action will be taken,” Nakum said.

He emphasised that the administration will not tolerate attempts to exploit public concerns during sensitive times.

Citizens Urged to Remain Calm

The authorities reiterated that adequate planning has been done to maintain a stable supply of cooking gas across the district. Officials also said that continuous monitoring of LPG stocks and distribution networks will continue in the coming days.

With rumours spreading rapidly on social media about LPG shortages, the district administration urged citizens to rely only on official information and avoid panic buying.
