Gujarat Jail Reform: Prisoners’ Children Felicitated for Government Job Success

Ahmedabad | Gujarat — With the noble intention that the children of prisoners serving their sentences behind the four walls of the jail should move forward in the society with pride and join government services, a special felicitation ceremony was held at Ahmedabad Central Jail under the ‘Vikasdeep’ scheme .In this program, the state police chief Dr. KLN Rao, gave away cash prizes and mementos to the children of prisoners who succeeded in various competitive examinations.

During this program, the achievements of two bright youths, mainly the sons of prisoners, were felicitated. Rajendrasinh Jatubha Jadeja, son of Ahmedabad Central Jail inmate, who has completed the process of Gujarat Police Recruitment Board-2024 and has been selected as ‘Unarmed Police Constable’. Apart from that, the son of Sursang Solanki, a jailed prisoner of Rajkot Central Jail, who passed the Gujarat Subordinate Services Selection Board examination and got appointed as ‘Junior Clerk’ (Food and Civil Supplies Department) at Surat.

Both the bright youths have been awarded a cash prize of Rs. 15,001/-, and a certificate of appreciation by the state police chief under the ‘Vikasdeep’ scheme.

Gujarat police chief Dr. K.L.N. Rao said that the prison is not just a center of punishment but also a school of reform. The prison department is constantly striving to ensure that the children of prisoners advance in education and competitive examinations and create a bright future.

On this occasion, the Inspector General of Prisons, Ahmedabad Jail Superintendent Gaurav Agarwal, Deputy Superintendent P.I. Solanki, other high officials, employees and prisoners were present. This reformative activity of the jail administration was heartily appreciated by all present.

Incentives given in the last two years

Under the ‘Ek Nai Umeed Scheme’, about 57 prisoners who passed the standard 10th, standard 12th and higher examinations in the state jails were given a cash prize of Rs. 74,057 as an incentive and a certificate of appreciation on August 12, 2024.

A total of 39 children of 38 prisoners were given cash prizes of Rs.54,038 on November 21, 2024 and a total of 38 children of 34 prisoners were given cash prizes of Rs.47,538 as incentives and certificates of appreciation.

A total of 10 children of 10 prisoners were given cash prizes of Rs.11,500 as incentives and certificates of appreciation a total of 51 prisoners who passed Standard 10 and Standard 12 and were lodged in state jails were given a cash reward of Rs.57,551 as an incentive.
