Porbandar | Gujarat — Demonstrating heightened maritime vigilance, a team of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has intercepted a Pakistani fishing boat with nine crew members during routine patrol operations in the Arabian Sea. The interception took place in international waters close to the Indian maritime boundary, and the vessel is now being escorted to Porbandar, where further investigation and legal action are expected.

According to official sources, the Coast Guard was conducting regular surveillance and patrolling in the international maritime zone when personnel noticed suspicious movement by a fishing boat approaching Indian waters. Acting swiftly, Coast Guard ships altered course, surrounded the vessel, and successfully stopped it before it could proceed further.

“All nine individuals onboard were secured without resistance,” a source said, adding that the operation reflected the robust maritime monitoring system currently in place along India’s western coastline.

Boat Identified as Pakistani Vessel

During preliminary checks at sea, Coast Guard officials confirmed that the intercepted boat was of Pakistani origin. The vessel was identified as ‘Al Madina’, and all nine crew members were found to be Pakistani nationals. Following standard security protocols, the crew was subjected to initial questioning to determine the purpose of their presence in the area and whether any laws had been violated.

Both the boat and the crew were subsequently taken into custody. “At this stage, the questioning is routine and part of established procedures whenever foreign vessels are intercepted near Indian waters,” an official said.

Vessel Being Escorted to Porbandar

The Coast Guard has begun the process of bringing the seized boat to Porbandar port, where the crew will be handed over to local authorities for detailed interrogation. Officials indicated that a formal case is likely to be registered after verification of documents, fishing permits, navigation routes and intent.

Authorities will also examine whether the incident was a case of accidental drift due to weather conditions or an intentional breach of maritime norms.

Coastal Security Further Tightened

The interception has once again brought focus to coastal and maritime security along Gujarat’s shoreline. Officials noted that a similar Pakistani boat was intercepted on December 13, barely a month ago, highlighting the need for constant vigilance.

“In view of repeated incidents, coastal surveillance has been intensified,” an official said. “Patrolling frequency has increased, and coordination among maritime security agencies has been further strengthened to prevent any unauthorised movement.”
