Kevadia (Ekta Nagar) | Gujarat — Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful and emotional address at the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, lashing out at the Congress party for its “slave mentality inherited from the British” and for “dividing Kashmir and the nation’s unity.” Speaking at the base of the iconic Statue of Unity in Gujarat’s Narmada district, PM Modi launched a frontal political assault, linking the Congress era’s policies with the long-standing turmoil in Jammu and Kashmir.

“The mistakes made by Congress on Kashmir have burned the country for decades,” Modi declared, adding, “Sardar Patel wanted to integrate the entire Kashmir into India, but the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru prevented it. Because of that, Kashmir was divided and given a separate constitution.”

‘Congress inherited slave mentality from the British’

The Prime Minister accused the Congress of carrying forward the colonial mindset left behind by the British rulers.

“Congress inherited slave mentality from the British. What the British could not do, Congress did. They even removed a part of ‘Vande Mataram’ on religious grounds, pushing the British agenda of dividing the nation,” Modi said to loud cheers from the crowd gathered for the grand National Unity Day parade — the first of its kind in Ekta Nagar, modeled on Delhi’s Republic Day parade.

‘Infiltration a serious internal threat’

Highlighting internal security challenges, Modi warned that foreign infiltrators have been disturbing India’s demographic balance for decades, aided by the apathy of previous governments.

“The unity and internal security of our nation are facing a serious threat from infiltrators. Unfortunately, previous governments ignored this problem for vote-bank politics. For the first time, the country has taken a decisive stand to protect its integrity,” Modi asserted.

He also mentioned the Demography Mission announced from the Red Fort, reiterating that the government would not allow selfish political interests to override national priorities. “Some people are fighting for the rights of infiltrators rather than standing with the country. We must all take a pledge to remove every infiltrator who threatens India’s unity.”

‘This is the India of Sardar Patel – no compromise on security’

Calling Sardar Patel the “Iron Man of India,” Modi said his government has worked relentlessly to curb Naxalism and Maoism, which had previously engulfed 114 districts before 2014. “We built roads and development projects where Naxalites never allowed it earlier. Today, Naxalism is on its last legs,” he said, emphasizing that internal security remains his top priority.

He reiterated his government’s strong stance on terrorism and infiltration, proclaiming, “We will not stop until India is free from terrorism.”

‘Today’s India kills enemies by entering their homes’

Speaking on Article 370 and Kashmir, PM Modi said, “By breaking the bonds of Article 370, Kashmir has joined the mainstream. The world saw during Operation Sindoor that if anyone dares to raise eyes toward India, Bharat ghar mein ghus kar marta hai.”

He further added, “Crores of people today took the oath of unity. Every citizen must renounce thoughts or actions that weaken the nation.”

National Unity Parade: Showcasing women’s power and valour

Before his address, PM Modi took the salute at the National Unity Parade, which was led entirely by women officers.

A total of 16 contingents, including BSF, CRPF, CISF, and ITBP, participated, alongside Shaurya Chakra awardees and Operation Sindoor heroes. The parade also featured nine bands and school contingents, making it a symbol of unity and pride.

Bharat Parv 2025 announced

Concluding his speech, the Prime Minister announced ‘Bharat Parv 2025’, to be held from November 1 to 15 at the Statue of Unity complex in Ekta Nagar. The two-week-long festival will showcase India’s rich heritage and unity in diversity, featuring cultural programs by different states every evening at Dam View Point 1.

“Sardar Patel’s dream of one India, great India, is becoming a reality today,” Modi said, as the crowd responded with chants of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat!’
