Ahmedabad | Gujarat — The delay in Gujarat’s local elections has raised eyebrows, with claims of over 60 lakh suspicious and duplicate voters surfacing. In response to the Central Election Commission’s directive, a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll will now commence in Gujarat.

While the entire process is set to be completed by the first week of February, the elections for the Panchayat and the Municipal Corporation might be delayed as a result.  Those aspiring to join the Panchayat and serve as corporators in the Municipal Corporation will need to exercise some patience.

The Central Commission’s initiative to eliminate fraudulent voting

Following Rahul Gandhi’s presentation of evidence concerning duplicate and suspicious voters in Maharashtra and Karnataka, this matter is rapidly gaining traction as a nationwide topic of conversation.  The CEC has initiated a comprehensive effort to eliminate fraudulent voting in the upcoming elections.

Wednesday marks the beginning of the Central Election Commission’s initiative to verify the electoral roll in Gujarat.  In Gujarat, there are an impressive five crore voters. During the first phase, dedicated booth level officers will be visiting homes to identify each voter personally.  A total of 50,963 booth level officers have been assigned the important responsibility of verifying voters.

In Gujarat, the Congress has raised concerns about 62 lakh voters being questionable. In response, the State Election Commission will take action to eliminate duplicate and deceased names from the voter list through this process.  Additionally, the names of voters listed in two locations will be eliminated from the voter list.

Voter list identification: November 4 to December 4.

Between November 4 and December 4, every voter on the list will be verified.  On December 9, the provisional voter list will be released. Voters whose names are missing will receive a notice and have the chance to submit objections along with supporting documents.  Mark your calendars! The final voter list is set to be unveiled on February 7.

Following that, the extent of duplicate-suspicious voters in Gujarat will be revealed.  The ward delimitation process for the new district panchayat remains unresolved.  Given the circumstances, it is not feasible to conduct local self-government elections in January-February.  The elections appear to be delayed.  There are discussions about the potential for Panchayat and Municipal elections to take place in April-May.
