Surat | Gujarat — In an extraordinary turn of events that has stunned doctors and residents alike, a 45-year-old man who was declared dead at the New Civil Hospital in Surat miraculously came back to life 15 minutes later. The incident has become a major talking point among medical professionals and the public, with many calling it a “medical miracle.”

The patient, Rajesh Patel, a resident of Ankleshwar, was admitted to the hospital after suffering severe heart failure. Doctors said Patel’s condition was deteriorating rapidly despite intensive medical intervention. “His ECG showed a straight line, indicating no heartbeat or brain activity. We followed all protocols and declared him dead,” said one of the attending doctors.

Family members broke down upon hearing the news. But what happened next left everyone in shock. About 15 minutes after being declared dead, a slight movement was noticed in Patel’s body. To everyone’s disbelief, the ECG monitor began showing heart activity once again.

Doctors immediately rushed to the emergency room and transferred Patel back to the ICU (Intensive Care Unit). The medical team administered life-supporting treatment, and within minutes, his pulse and breathing returned to normal.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Umesh Chaudhary, describing the case, said,“In my 30 years of medical practice, I have never seen anything like this. We often try CPR to revive cardiac arrest patients, but in this case, the heartbeat returned spontaneously, without any intervention. It is truly rare.”

According to the hospital’s preliminary report, Patel was suffering from severe cardiac failure and extremely high blood sugar levels. When declared dead, there were no signs of breathing or pulse, confirming complete cardiac arrest. However, what doctors are calling a case of “spontaneous cardiac revival” occurred—a phenomenon so rare that only a handful of cases have been documented worldwide.

Hospital sources confirmed that Rajesh Patel is currently in stable condition and under 24-hour observation. “The next few days will be crucial,” said a senior cardiologist. “We are monitoring his heart rhythm and neurological response carefully to understand the cause and long-term prognosis.”

Medical experts say such events, though rare, underline how much remains unknown about the human body and heart function. The case has sparked discussions in medical circles across Gujarat, with doctors planning to document it for academic reference.

For Rajesh Patel’s family, what seemed like a tragedy turned into a moment of hope. “We had lost all faith. It felt like God returned him to us,” said a relative, expressing gratitude to the hospital team.
