Surat | Gujarat — In a proud moment for Surat’s cooperative sector, Varsha Haresh Bhatti, the founder and chairperson of Mahila Vikas Cooperative Credit Society, has been honoured with the Best Excellence Award 2025 (Women Category) by the National Cooperative Development Corporation Authority of India (NCDC).

The award was presented by Dilipbhai Sanghani, former minister and Chairman of IFFCO Gandhinagar, who also handed over a cheque of Rs. 35,000 in recognition of her outstanding contribution to women’s empowerment and cooperative growth in Gujarat.

Mahila Vikas Society – 31 years of service for women, by women

Established over three decades ago, the Mahila Vikas Cooperative Credit Society has become a beacon of empowerment for women in Surat’s Varachha area. The organization stands out as the only women-run and women-focused cooperative in the region.

For 31 years, it has been providing financial assistance, government scheme benefits, training, and employment opportunities to women, especially those involved in cottage and small-scale industries. The society enables women to become financially independent, while also fostering entrepreneurial and educational development.

In recognition of its consistent performance, the organization has been felicitated with state-level awards five times, underscoring its impact and credibility within Gujarat’s cooperative landscape.

Social and community initiatives for holistic growth

Beyond credit and savings programs, the Mahila Vikas Society actively organizes diagnostic health camps, blood donation drives, and Ayushman Card registration camps, ensuring women’s access to healthcare and social welfare schemes.

Through its education and training initiatives, the society helps women acquire practical skills for self-employment and sustainable livelihoods. This approach reflects Varsha Haresh Bhatti’s vision of creating a self-reliant and socially responsible women’s community in Surat.

Leadership that inspires the cooperative movement

Under Varsha Haresh Bhatti’s leadership, the Mahila Vikas Cooperative Credit Society continues to serve as a model for inclusive financial growth. Her recognition with the Varsha Haresh Bhatti Best Excellence Award 2025 not only celebrates her personal achievement but also highlights the growing role of women cooperators in nation-building.
