Vapi | Gujarat — In a sweeping operation that has stunned the industry, the Income Tax Department has launched an extensive raid across multiple locations in Vapi, Mumbai, and Pune, targeting some of the region’s largest paper mills. The raid involves over 25 teams and aims to expose tax evasion, black money activities, and financial irregularities within the industry.
The primary targets include leading mills such as Gajanand Paper Mill, Shri Ajit Paper Mill, and N.R. Agarwal Paper Mill. Alongside these companies, authorities are investigating related firms and scrap dealers associated with these mills, indicating a comprehensive effort to track illicit financial flows.
An official from the Income Tax Department emphasized, “This is a major step in our ongoing fight against tax evasion. We are meticulously examining all financial transactions and documents to uncover any irregularities or illegal activities.”
The raids have covered more than 10 to 12 locations in Vapi, with additional searches carried out at multiple sites in Mumbai and Pune. The operation involves detailed searches within factory premises, offices, and the residences of key executives.
Official sources revealed that during the operation, the IT teams are scrutinizing large-scale financial transactions, sales and purchase records, and account books to determine if illicit money or black funds are being siphoned off illegally.
This large-scale effort indicates a clear government intention to crackdown on black money and tax evasion within the paper industry — a sector believed to be prone to such activities. Experts say the search operation could lead to substantial legal action and penalties for those involved.
