Surat | Gujarat —In a powerful grassroots effort to spread awareness about maternal and child health, the Adani Foundation, under its flagship initiative Project Fortune Suposhan, celebrated World Breastfeeding Week 2025 across 68 villages in Umarpada Taluka, a remote tribal belt in Gujarat’s Surat district.
Held from August 1 to 7, the campaign was conducted in collaboration with the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) department. The week-long celebration saw enthusiastic participation from Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, and Suposhan Sanginis, who led community-level activities to highlight the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a child’s life.
“Breastfeeding is not just a health choice; it is the first step toward a healthier generation. Our goal is to ensure every tribal mother understands the life-saving importance of early nutrition,” said an ICDS health official who supported the initiative.
Awareness rallies, nutritional lectures, family counseling sessions, and even healthy baby competitions were organized to convey key messages in a culturally engaging manner. The rural mothers, most of whom belong to tribal communities, were actively involved in the sessions, gaining crucial insights into breastfeeding practices and complementary feeding.
The Suposhan Sanginis, trained community health facilitators under the Adani Foundation, played a pivotal role by educating mothers on the health benefits of breastfeeding and addressing myths and misconceptions.
“Our Suposhan Sanginis are working relentlessly to empower women in the remotest villages with knowledge that can save lives,” said a representative from the Adani Foundation. “This is not just a campaign, but a mission to build a healthier future.”
The theme of the week—“Breastfeeding: Life-Giving First Nutrition”—resonated deeply across the villages, making the campaign a meaningful step toward improving maternal and child nutrition in tribal Gujarat.
