Daman, Union Territory – The usually calm coastline of Daman has transformed into a spectacle of nature, drawing large crowds of tourists as the Amasa tide causes massive 15 to 20-foot waves to rise from the sea. The Namopath area has become a key attraction point as visitors from across Gujarat and neighbouring states gather to witness the breathtaking force of the ocean.

The unique tidal event, caused by the lunar phenomenon of Amasa (new moon), has stirred up strong currents, turning the sea near Namopath into a visual delight of crashing waves and misty sprays. Social media is flooded with videos and pictures, further fuelling interest in this natural marvel.

“I came from Surat after seeing reels of the waves on Instagram. It’s like watching a live nature documentary,” said Parth Patel, a tourist standing on the Namopath jetty. “We even dipped our feet in the water – it’s thrilling but also a little scary.”

Another visitor, Roshni Mehta from Vadodara, shared, “I’ve never seen the sea this wild in Daman. It’s a rare sight. The power of the waves is mesmerizing. We are keeping a safe distance but thoroughly enjoying it.”

Despite the allure, the powerful currents pose a risk. The local administration has stationed lifeguards and issued warnings advising people to stay away from deep waters. Barricades have been placed at key locations along the Namopath walkway to prevent accidents.

“We are delighted by the tourist response, but safety is our top priority,” said a tourism department official. “People should enjoy the view, take photographs, but not venture into the sea beyond the marked zones.”

The Amasa tide is expected to last for a few more days, and with the weekend approaching, an even larger influx of tourists is anticipated. Hotels near the Daman seafront are reporting full bookings, and local vendors are doing brisk business selling snacks, coconut water, and souvenirs.

This rare blend of natural beauty and raw sea power has turned the Namopath stretch into Daman’s newest Instagram hotspot — a reminder of how nature can both awe and caution.
