Ahmedabad, Gujarat – Teachers in the government, grant-in-aid, and private schools in Ahmedabad have come under the scanner of the education department after the Federation of Academic Association accused teachers of blackmailing students for marks and forcing them to join private tuition classes. The Federation submitted a detailed list of 11 schools allegedly involved in this unethical practice to the Ahmedabad District Education Officer (DEO) on Thursday, and a formal investigation is ordered.

Teachers Running Illegal Tuition, Threatening Students

According to the complaint, several teachers working in government, grant-in-aid, and private schools are also conducting unauthorized private tuitions, in direct violation of education board rules. These teachers are allegedly pressuring students to join their tuition classes, and in some cases, withholding internal exam marks if students refuse.

“Many students are being blackmailed and emotionally manipulated. They are told their marks will suffer if they don’t join the teacher’s tuition. This is not just unethical, it’s illegal,” said Hemang Rawal, President of the Federation.

Day Care and Dummy Schools Also Under Scanner

The Federation has further alleged that illegal day care schools and dummy institutions are operating under the radar in Ahmedabad. These schools offer students a way to stay enrolled on paper, while attending only private tuition for actual learning.

After noon, many schools turn into tuition centers. They call it ‘day care’ but it’s actually illegal tuition. Some students are even enrolled in dummy classes where they don’t attend school at all,” Rawal added.

These dummy and day care setups violate the Gujarat Education Board norms, but many such institutions are functioning with impunity, according to the Federation.

DEO Promises Action, Probe Teams Deployed

Rohit Chaudhary, the Ahmedabad DEO, confirmed that a formal complaint has been received and teams have been deployed to investigate.

“We have formed dedicated teams to verify these allegations. If any teacher is found guilty of forcing students or violating rules, strict action will be taken under the Gujarat Board’s disciplinary regulations,” Chaudhary said.

He emphasized that the department takes such complaints seriously and will ensure transparency and fairness in internal evaluations.

Federation Warns of Protests if No Action Taken

Expressing frustration over past inaction, Rawal warned that if swift and visible action is not taken this time, the Federation will launch a public protest.

“This exploitation has gone on for too long. Teachers are supposed to uplift students, not extort them. If the government fails to act, we’ll hit the streets,” he asserted.
