Ahmedabad, Gujarat —  In a horrifying act of violence inside a school, a parent stabbed a teacher in the head with a knife during an argument over the issuance of a living certificate (LC) for his daughter. The shocking incident took place at Nutan Bharati Vidyalaya in the Rakhial area of Ahmedabad, triggering outrage over rising aggression and lack of safety in educational institutions.

The accused, identified as Haji Mushtaq Ahmed, arrived at the school to collect his daughter’s LC. When clerk-cum-teacher Shabbir Shaikh informed him that the document would be available on Friday, the parent lost his temper, accusing the teacher of contradicting the principal’s earlier assurance of a Monday issuance.

“The principal told me to come Monday, and you are saying Friday—why are you lying?” Haji Mushtaq allegedly shouted before slapping Shaikh and escalating the assault.

According to eyewitnesses, as Shabbir stood up from his chair, Haji pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed him on the head. The violent act was captured on CCTV, clearly showing the weapon being drawn and used in the attack. School staff rushed to intervene and separate the two before more harm could be done.

Shaikh was immediately taken to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, where he received seven stitches for the deep head injury. He later filed a formal complaint at Rakhial Police Station, prompting authorities to launch a criminal investigation.

“This is not just an attack on me, it’s an attack on the entire education system. We come to teach, not to get assaulted,” said Shabbir Shaikh, speaking from the hospital.

Police are now probing the incident and verifying the sequence of events via the CCTV footage, which has gone viral in local circles. The accused parent is currently under investigation, and legal action is expected.

In a separate but equally disturbing incident, a Standard 7 student from Hebron School in Maninagar was allegedly beaten mercilessly by a Gujarati teacher, leaving the child’s back red and bruised. Following a complaint by the student’s parents, the District Education Officer (DEO) has ordered an inquiry and the school has dismissed the teacher immediately.

These twin cases from Ahmedabad—one involving violence by a parent against a teacher, and the other abuse by a teacher against a student—have once again raised concerns about safety and discipline in schools.

“This is alarming. Schools should be safe spaces—for both teachers and students. We are reviewing both cases seriously,” a senior DEO official said.
