Surat, Gujarat –  Demonstrating a powerful commitment to ecological sustainability, the Adani Foundation Hazira marked World Environment Day 2025 with a vigorous series of environmental and awareness activities. From sweeping beach clean-ups to extensive tree plantation drives and determined campaigns against plastic pollution, the Foundation engaged communities in the Hazira coastal area and Umarpada taluka, sowing the seeds for a greener present and future.

“Our planet needs us now more than ever, and we believe that collective action is the most powerful tool for change,” stated a spokesperson for the Adani Foundation Hazira. “This World Environment Day, we reaffirmed our dedication to environmental protection by involving every segment of the community, from our staff to local women and children, in impactful initiatives.”

The celebrations kicked off with a dedicated tree plantation campaign on June 3 at Hazira Port, involving AHPL staff, underscoring the organization’s internal commitment to environmental stewardship. Further extending this “initiative for green environment,” the Foundation team organized a tree plantation drive at Jhumawadi, bringing together Mahila Mandal groups, local farmers, and Panchayat representatives. Each participant took a solemn pledge to care for nature, embodying a shared responsibility. This ambitious campaign represents the initial step towards the significant goal of planting 5,000 trees in this specific area by 2026.

A central focus of the World Environment Day activities was the pervasive challenge of plastic pollution. On June 5, an environmental awareness program was organized at Navchetan School under the global theme #BeatPlasticPollution. Students received vital information about the crucial 4R method – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Refuse – and enthusiastically pledged to adopt more moderate and responsible plastic consumption habits. “It’s essential to educate our young generation about the dangers of plastic,” remarked a teacher at Navchetan School. “They are the future stewards of our environment, and instilling these habits early is key.”

Community engagement was paramount, with women from Jhumawadi, Ghanawad, and Andhali Kuva villages participating in a dedicated cleanliness drive at Devghat Eco Tourism. They meticulously collected plastic bottles, wrappers, and other litter, making a passionate appeal to visitors to help keep the site pristine. Their active participation highlighted the local resolve to protect their natural surroundings.

These recent efforts build upon significant past achievements. In December 2024, the Adani Foundation Hazira successfully planted 1,000 trees across 15 acres of land in Lavchha village. This strategically chosen assortment included long-lived species such as Raintree, Pelto, Umru, Cirrus, Banavriksha, Karanj, and Arjun. These young trees, already reaching heights of 8 to 10 feet, will be meticulously maintained by the Adani Foundation for the next three years, ensuring their growth and the development of the area into a thriving community forest.

Looking ahead, the Adani Foundation Hazira has set an ambitious target: to plant over 10,000 trees in the Umarpada and Hazira regions by the year 2026. This comprehensive and sustained commitment to environmental protection showcases the Foundation’s deep-rooted dedication to fostering a healthier, greener planet for the communities it serves.
