Gandhinagar, Gujarat – In a firm and proactive move to safeguard citizens from potential disruption in the supply of daily necessities, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has ordered the establishment of a robust monitoring and supply mechanism for essential commodities in Gujarat. This comes amid heightened concerns regarding hoarding, black marketing, and misinformation that could trigger panic buying or artificial scarcity.

Following the Gujarat CM’s directive, the Food and Civil Supplies Department has rolled out a comprehensive action plan across the state. Principal Secretary R.C. Meena stated that district collectors have been empowered and instructed to monitor the availability and pricing of 38 essential commodities on a daily basis.

“The state is fully prepared. Every district collector is under instruction to ensure that essential food items are not only available but sold at fair prices. We are keeping a close watch,” Meena emphasized. Retailers, millers, processors, importers, and other key stakeholders in the food supply chain have been warned against hoarding, with the state prepared to invoke the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 against violators.

This move is seen as a pre-emptive strike against possible market manipulation. Meena confirmed that the retail inflation rate for food is at its lowest in six years, a testament to the state’s solid grip on market dynamics. “There is no shortage of food items. Every essential product is stocked in adequate quantity, and procurement at Minimum Support Price (MSP) is progressing as usual,” he added.

To combat misinformation and rumors, the Gujarat government is urging citizens to stay calm and trust the administration. Public cooperation is being called for to maintain the smooth functioning of the essential supply ecosystem.

Industry watchers believe this decisive action will not only keep consumer prices in check but also send a strong signal to those attempting to exploit the current environment for unlawful profit. With strict surveillance and legal backing, the Gujarat administration appears committed to shielding citizens from both artificial inflation and scarcity.
