Vadodara, Gujarat – The Central University of Gujarat (CUG) is fully committed to the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. A one-day workshop was organized on Friday at the university’s newly established permanent campus in Kundhela, Vadodara. The workshop, conducted on the theme of implementing NEP 2020, witnessed the active participation of all faculty members of the university.

Presiding over the workshop, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rama Shanker Dubey stated that the National Education Policy 2020 incorporates the essence of Indian values. The primary vision of the NEP 2020 is to create an education system that not only prepares students to become global citizens but also ensures that they are deeply rooted in Indian ethics, knowledge, skills and values.

He emphasized the importance of a multidisciplinary approach, which would help integrate various disciplines to provide students with a broader and more interfacing understanding. Prof. Tapas Kumar Dalapati, Dean of the School of Social Sciences and convener of the workshop, informed that the key objective of the event was to make faculty members aware of the NEP 2020 and ensure its practical implementation at the university.

He noted that the University Grants Commission (UGC) has released several key policy documents related to this vision. These include the curriculum and credit framework for UG and PG programs, the National Higher Education Qualification Framework (NHEQF), establishment and operationalization of the Academic Bank of Credit (ABC), guidelines for multiple entry and exit options, and a credit framework for online courses offered through SWAYAM as part of skill-based education.

Experts Highlight Key Aspects of NEP in Thematic Sessions

During the workshop, subject experts shared insights on different themes related to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Mr. Darshan Maru, Controller of Examinations, discussed the Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programs. Prof. Tapas Kumar Dalapati presented the Curriculum and Credit Framework for Postgraduate Programs. Prof. Manish, Dean of the School of International Studies, spoke about the importance of online courses (SWAYAM) in the changing academic landscape. Prof. Keshav Lalit Ameta, Dean of the School of Applied Material Sciences, gave a presentation on the Curriculum and Credit Framework for Five-Year Integrated UG-PG Programs.

Prof. Atanu Bhattacharya, Head of the Department of English Studies, discussed the nature of courses and the academic responsibilities of faculty members under NEP 2020. At the conclusion of the workshop, Prof. Dalapati presented the workshop report. Prof. Pallavi Sharma, Dean of the School of Nano Sciences, delivered the vote of thanks. The workshop was moderated by Dr. Sonal Sharma and Dr. Pushpa Devi.
