Ahmedabad : A devastating fire broke out under the Odhav Bridge on Ahmedabad’s Ring Road early Monday morning, reducing 22 two-wheelers and two cars—detained by the traffic police—to ashes. Additionally, 11 other two-wheelers parked by individuals were also engulfed in flames, bringing the total number of burnt vehicles to 35.

According to fire department sources, the fire was first reported at around 7 a.m. Two fire brigade vehicles from Odhav Fire Station were immediately dispatched to the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control. However, by the time the flames were extinguished, all the vehicles had already been reduced to ashes.

Police and Fire Officials Investigate the Cause

Authorities are now investigating the cause of the fire, which remains unknown. “Two-wheelers and cars detained by the I Division Traffic Police under the Odhav Bridge caught fire. As many as 22 detained two-wheelers and two cars were completely burnt, along with 11 other parked two-wheelers,” said Odhav Fire Station Officer Vishnubhai.

Traffic DCP Safeen Hasan stated that all the burnt vehicles were non-owned and had been seized by the I Division Traffic Police. “Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire may have been caused by garbage under the bridge,” he added.

Who Will Compensate the Vehicle Owners?

The incident has raised serious questions regarding compensation for the owners of the burnt vehicles. Since the traffic police had detained these vehicles, their responsibility for ensuring their safety is now under scrutiny. Many are now questioning who will bear the financial burden for the loss, as owners who had their vehicles seized now face uncertainty regarding any possible compensation.

While no casualties were reported in the incident, the destruction of the seized vehicles has highlighted concerns regarding fire safety and proper storage of detained vehicles. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire and any potential lapses in vehicle safety management.
