Ahmedabad: After a hiatus of 64 years, the Indian National Congress is gearing up for a momentous convention in Ahmedabad on April 8 and 9. This revival marks a pivotal moment for the party’s strategy in Gujarat, drawing top leadership and workers to deliberate on crucial reforms and directions.

Congress sources revealed that the preparatory discussions underscored a significant shift in messaging, urging party members to refer to ‘Sabarmati Tat’ instead of ‘Sabarmati Riverfront’ in public discourse. Furthermore, emphasis was placed on using ‘Indian National Congress’ in place of ‘Congress’ to reinforce the party’s national identity.

To ensure the event’s success, Congress national spokesperson Pawan Khera recently visited Gujarat, engaging with local leaders and workers. Reflecting on the visit, Khera highlighted the implementation of Rahul Gandhi’s directives regarding Gujarat’s leadership.

“I do not dwell on the past years; our focus is on the future. The party resonates with the pulse of the people and addresses issues openly,” stated Khera, responding to queries about the state leadership’s performance.

Rahul Gandhi’s recent visit to Gujarat on March 6-7 injected further momentum into the upcoming convention. Addressing a gathering, Gandhi underscored the need to identify and expel individuals associated with the BJP within the party ranks.

“In Gujarat’s leadership, among district and block presidents, there are two distinct factions. We must separate those aligned with people’s interests from those who have strayed,” Gandhi asserted, outlining a stringent course of action.

Anticipating a historic gathering in Ahmedabad, Pawan Khera underscored the convention’s potential to redefine the Congress narrative in Gujarat.

“The history of our struggle is often rewritten through such conventions. Whether in power or opposition, these gatherings steer our societal direction,” Khera remarked, emphasizing the convention’s relevance despite the party’s current opposition status.

Highlighting the influx of former members eager to return, Khera expressed confidence in Gujarat’s Congress resilience.

“Despite three decades in opposition, many leaders remain steadfast. Those who left will realize the value of our legacy,” Khera affirmed.

Looking ahead, Khera urged Delhi-based spokespersons to glean insights from Gujarat’s rich political history.

“Our Gujarat counterparts have meticulously documented our convention legacy. This knowledge exchange is crucial as we prepare to share our achievements with the media and educate the youth,” Khera suggested.

Acknowledging Congress’s enduring contributions, Khera contrasted the party’s humility with BJP’s rhetoric.

“We’ve done much without boasting, a stark contrast to our counterparts. Our history and achievements will resonate with future generations,” Khera concluded, underscoring Congress’s commitment to nation-building.
