Surat: Amid the ongoing recession in the diamond industry, a major diamond theft worth ₹11 lakh took place in Surat’s Kapodra area during the Holi-Dhuleti holidays. The police launched an intensive investigation, ultimately arresting the culprits from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan through a well-planned undercover operation.

How the Heist Unfolded

The prime accused, Akash Shakya from Madhya Pradesh, worked as a diamond polisher in a diamond factory located in Kapodra’s Snehamudra Society Building No. 63. He meticulously planned the robbery by:

Using the factory owner’s father’s mobile flashlight to identify the safe’s serial number.

Stealing the key that was carefully kept by the factory owner’s father.

Opening the safe and escaping with diamonds worth ₹11 lakh.

The theft went unnoticed until the factory owner discovered the missing diamonds and immediately reported the incident to the police.

Police Crack the Case with Undercover Tactics

Given the seriousness of the crime, Kapodra police formed multiple teams to trace the accused. Using advanced tracking methods, the police:

Analyzed the factory workforce data and found that one diamond polisher was missing since the day before the incident.

Tracked his mobile number and shared it with Bihar police, who confirmed his whereabouts.

Conducted a reconnaissance mission and arrested Akash Shakya from Madhya Pradesh.

During interrogation, Shakya revealed the involvement of his accomplice, Kailash from Rajasthan, who possessed half of the stolen diamonds. The police immediately moved to Rajasthan and successfully arrested Kailash, recovering the stolen goods.

Ongoing Recovery Process

While a portion of the diamonds has been seized, some were reportedly sold by the accused. The police are currently working to retrieve the remaining stolen diamonds through further investigations.

“The accused were traced using a combination of intelligence, mobile tracking, and undercover operations. We are in the process of recovering the remaining stolen diamonds,” said a Kapodra Police Inspector.
