Ahmedabad: The summer of 2025 has arrived early in Gujarat, with temperatures soaring beyond 41°C in Rajkot. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for 13 districts from March 10 to 13, warning of a potential heatwave and intense humidity, especially in coastal regions. Weather experts predict that this summer could break historical temperature records in the state.

Yellow Alert Issued Across Gujarat

A heatwave warning has been issued for Ahmedabad, Banaskantha, Kutch, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Botad, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Valsad, and Surat.

Meteorologist Paresh Goswami stated that wind speeds and high temperatures will dominate Gujarat’s climate over the next few days. Currently, wind speeds range from 9 km/h to 13 km/h, but they are expected to increase to 18 km/h – 22 km/h from March 11 onward. The north-westerly winds coming from the Arabian Sea will bring high humidity, intensifying the sweltering conditions in Saurashtra-Kutch and South Gujarat until March 13.

Temperatures Set to Break Records

According to forecasts, temperatures in many parts of Gujarat will cross 40°C, with some areas potentially recording all-time highs. This marks the first major heatwave of 2025, with many more expected in the coming months.

Regions most affected by extreme temperatures include:

Kutch: Bhuj, Bhachau, and Rapar

Saurashtra: Jamnagar, Morbi, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Botad, Junagadh, and Amreli

North Gujarat: Patan, Himmatnagar, and Idar

Central Gujarat: Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Nadiad

In South Gujarat, temperatures are expected to range between 36°C and 40°C. Although slightly lower than in other regions, the high humidity and coastal winds will make the heat unbearable.

Relief Expected from March 14

The Western Disturbance passing from the north is expected to bring cloudy weather and slight temperature drops from March 14. This will cause a 2°C to 4°C temperature decrease, offering temporary relief from the scorching heat. Some areas may also experience light rainfall (Mavathu).

Precautionary Measures

Authorities advise residents to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight, and wear light clothing to minimize heat-related risks. The elderly, children, and outdoor workers are urged to take extra precautions during this period of extreme heat.
